As usual, a brilliant piece, strewn with bon mots that the casual reader may miss, the same casual reader who probably receives as many as a dozen financial offers a week, and who might not shred them before putting them in the garbage. ...

[Re: Loose Cannon: This Thing of Ours, Direct Newsline, Monday, June 18, 2007]: I vote for herd. Not only is it an accurate description of the scene during cocktail hour in the exhibit hall, but can also be a spin on the great Abbott and Costello routine: ...

I love Tom Collins' makeovers. Some may think he's “old school” because he always [stresses] the importance of good copy. This industry, and especially those in advertising, need people like him to constantly remind them what they should be focusing on. Yet for the most part, print ads seem to ignore that wisdom. ...

LOL!!! Richard, thank you for a not only insightful but delightful column on the future as Ogilvy saw it 25 years ago. And special thanks for using the word "prognostications". ...

You have struck upon one of my favorite subjects. Surely you will recall that I am an old timey headhunter, or if you're a stuffed shirt traditionalist - an executive recruiter. But it's more fun to be a headhunter. ...

[Re: Loose Cannon: Of Questionable Use, Direct Newsline, May 7, 2007] An absolutely true conversation from the world of marketing research, regarding a cost estimate: ...

I really enjoyed Ray Schultz's comments on the pervasiveness (or is it invasiveness) of corporate logos that dominate (or is it litter) sports arenas, bus windows, and streets (Direct Hit, March). ...

Once upon a time, around 1960, I was asked by a Chicago Wall Street Journal space salesman to take part in a debate he was organizing of Space vs. Junk. I said, "Sure," figuring the WSJ must supply a better lunch than I could afford. They did. ...

Richard, Richard, Richard! How testy you are on a sunny April Monday morning! Perhaps it's the fact that the thermometer hasn't a clue that it's spring -- but you really were a little hard on our friends (yours and mine and several million others') at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. ...

Thanks for the story. An apt reminder, especially in these times, of the cruelty man is capable of -- and of the need to fight against intolerance wherever it occurs. ...

JUST ANOTHER SCAM Credit card companies rewarding loyalty? Hardly! It's all a big moneymaking scam for them (Curmudgeon-at-Large, February). The is actually ...

Read your recent lead-in to the USPS "Strip Search" article. I also received their latest postcard offering various services. I stopped in my local post office Saturday morning to inquire about "Premium Forwarding." The only thing "premium" was the pricing! ...

You've got to get out of the Northeast more often! I'm sure that another alert reader has informed you: Area 51 is in a state called "Nevada" (you may know it by its more common name: "Las Vegas") -- about 800 miles away from Roswell, New Mexico (another state you may not be familiar with). Also, Area 51 is real; Star Wars is just a movie. ...

Last week, Joe McTaggart responded to my call for reactions to Super Bowl ads by sending in selections from his blog. I'm late in presenting his comments, but they still make for entertaining reading. Any "are we STILL commenting on that game" messages should be directed at me, not him. -- Richard H. Levey ...

This is one of the funniest articles I have ever read! Your writing here reminds me of what my crazy (unique?) 21-year-old son, Michael, tells me sometimes when I raise my eyebrows, "dad, I can't believe the stuff that comes out of my mind!" ...
